Hawaiian Activities and Travel Guide


Included here is some great reading about what to see and do while in Hawaii.

Hawaii The Big Island Revealed.This is a great read, and the author, Andrew Doughty, knows his material from first hand experience. He and his co-writers are obviously active divers, hikers and bikers, so you're not getting arm chair info from them.
His evaluations of Beaches, Activities, Hotels, and Restaurants are candid and accurate. He also throws in some nice humor, along with a few of his own misadventures. Take heed when you read those.

A nice feature is the detailed maps ... and detailed explanations ... almost down to the name of the guy who lives next to the road you're supposed to turn on.

I especially liked his books on The Big Island and Maui ... probably because those are my “home” islands. I was a tourguide there for over 14 years, and Doughty pointed out some stuff I didn't even know.

I do have one issue with at least two of his books, and that is the lack of warning about dangerous situations on some of his Adventures. Yes, he does tell you to use caution, but I'd like to see a little more detail on what to be cautious about.
